The former
HeadToWCEU campaign
If you followed an old HeadTo link, you may have been looking for the #HeadToWCEU cycling project. This page preserves a short account of that former campaign. The 2020 ride was cancelled; registration, donations and partnerships for it are closed here.
What was planned
In 2019, Big Orange Heart, formerly WP&UP, announced a community cycle ride from the 2019 WordCamp Europe venue in Berlin to the planned 2020 venue in Porto. The project aimed to raise awareness of physical and mental wellbeing in the WordPress community. The organisers described a journey of more than 3,000 km through six countries. Their December 2019 update set out a proposed route of 3,167 km and invited people to join at defined stages. These were plans, not a record of a completed ride.
Read the historical route note for the proposed journey and links to the organisers’ original reporting.
Why it stopped
On , Big Orange Heart announced that the #HeadToWCEU 2020 project was cancelled because the emerging COVID-19 situation made the risks to riders, volunteers and the community unacceptable. The former registration and fundraising invitations on this domain should be read in that historical context.
