#HeadToWCEU 2020

Cancelled due to COVID-19

Why ride 3,000 km across Europe?

That's a valid question.  The answer is; to raise awareness of positive mental and physical health.

The #HeadToWCEU project is being undertaken by a team from WP&UP.  A registered charity that has a mission to; support and promote positive mental health within the WordPress community.  There is plenty of evidence that supports the link between good physical health with good mental health.

A challenge of this nature requires a dedicated level of commitment to both developing the riders physical health, along with the mental strength to undertake the journey.  No rider is a professional athlete, all are members of the WordPress community.  You will be able to follow along over the coming months with their personal progress, as they head towards the May 2020 date.

Why WordCamp Europe 2020?

WordCamp Europe, also known as #WCEU, is the largest of three regionals WordCamps globally.  Attracting over 3,200 registered attendees, from across 97 countries in 2019.  The event moves annually across Europe, to deliver the highest standard of community-driven events.

The event was in Berlin, Germany for 2019 and will be in Porto, Portugal during 2020.  The journey between the two cities is around 3,000 km.

In the runup to #WCEU 2019, Marcel Bootsman undertook an incredible challenge to #WalkToWCEU.  He walked 718.7 km from his home town to the Estrel in Berlin, Germany.  The challenge was intended to raise funds for DonateWC, a very worthy cause enabling speakers and volunteers to travel WordCamps globally.

The good work undertaken by Marcel has inspired the team at WP&UP to follow in his footsteps (you see what we did there).  Marcel, thank you for all that you have done and for your support of this project.

What about other WordCamps though?

The website you are on is called #HeadTo the #HeadToWCEU project is planned as the first of many such projects.  Of course, though, this first one is quite big.  So the limited time the team have will initially be focused on this project.

The grander concept of #HeadTo is; to enable and support people to be able to #HeadTo WordCamps and similar events, in unique and unusual ways to raise funds for registered non-profits.

If you would like to support the project or take part in any way, please do reach out to the WP&UP team.  Be sure to mention #HeadTo in communication.
